This was a worldwide hit, but deservedly so. The only Spanish-language tune by a group from Spain that has had such phenomenal success, and remains popular to this day.

Amaya Uranga’s powerful delivery gives it that special oomph. (Love that proper, hard rolled ‘r’ in guitarra. Our Spanish teachers always emphasized that “doble-ere” to us.) The innocence and simplicity of the words buoyed up by a catchy tune complete the ingredients of this attractive pop song.

How nice to see totally normal people singing here on video. No tattoos, skimpy clothes, strange body piercings, multicolored hair, etc. Such conservative ordinary dress they wore, too, despite following the drug-crazed, ribald and raucous (socially engineered to be such) decade of the ‘60s. Perhaps the song’s ocean of calm and homespun warmth contributed precisely to its success.
